Old Montreal Tastes – Experience the Flavours of Asia at Home

CAMBODIAN

Touk, 351 Place d'Youville

Touk, an achievement of chef Chanty Yen and such a wonderful lunchroom, was developed in the heart of the restaurant Parliament, and thrives off of its authentic menu and impeccable reputation. If you haven’t yet been here, you’re missing out. If there’s one pop-up restaurant that we want to see forever, it’s this little corner of Cambodian street food, especially for their papaya salad and Fresh Jungle Rolls. (For delivery and carryout, every day from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m.)

JAPONAIS

Bloom Sushi, 368 Saint-Paul Street West

Bloom Sushi offers dazzling plates of vegetarian sushi: the freshness, flavour, and happiness in this food is more than we can ask for during this particular October. While we have to wait to fully enjoy the restaurant’s décor and dine-in experience, we found the esthetic in their carry-out dishes absolutely perfect. (Available on Uber Eats and for carryout Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturday evenings)

Kyo Bar Japonais, 711 Côte de la Place d’Armes

In Kyo Bar Japonais’ culinary repertoire, we love their sushi, nigiri, and maki rolls, but we also want to recognize their izakaya options which always leave us pleasantly surpised. For a themed dinner or when you want a getaway, come here for their yakitori negima, gyoza (available in vegetarian options too), and takoyaki. (Delivery via Doordash and carryout options available)

Marusan, 401 Notre-Dame Street West

Japanese bar Marusan is offering its exquisite donburi, bento, and sushi for carryout. If you think there’s anything more comforting than a good Japanese curry, then you clearly haven’t tried theirs... (For delivery via Foodora, or for carryout you can call 514-289-1115, lunch- and supper-times, Mon.-Sat.)

Bonus: Don’t forget about the pop-up sushi shop by Ikanos, open starting Wednesday October 7th, for carryout!

FUSION

Sésame, 380 Saint-Jacques Street

Ah, Sésame! When you want to change up your routine, their uncompromising fusion style, appetizing dishes, and otherworldly flavours, is a great way to get your fill! From their menu, the peanut sauté is one of our favourites, and their tofu options are just a delight when you don’t want any meat. (Mon.-Sat., 11:30 a.m. – 7 p.m. for carryout and delivery)

VIETNAMIEN

Le Hà, 600 William Street

Our favourite side dish (their unbeatable fried broccoli, just saying) is available on their takeout menu! And great news! They also have Mr. Hà’s classic salmon, and when combined with their tasting wines, the joy is all right there on your table. We also love their branded toque they sell, which keeps our heads warm as the days grow colder and keeps their hearts warm to see our support for. (Wed.-Sun., for carryout or delivery via Doordash or by telephone at 514 379-4111)

Le Petit Sao, 237 Notre Dame Street West

Newly opened in the neighbourhood this year, Le petit Sao is a great example of simplicity, balance, quality, tradition, and, above all else sincere love for cuisine and introducing people to Vietnamese food. The bowls will have you falling in love, and their rolls will have you rolling – we can’t hold back our love for this newly installed restaurant!

Good to know: there’s a 10% discount on orders placed online on their website. (Mon.-Sat. 11:30 a.m. – 8 p.m., Sun 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. For carryout or delivery via Doordash or by calling (438) 380-1775.)

INDIAN

Le 409, 409 McGill Street

Le 409 has effortlessly risen, and rightly so, to rest among the best Indian restaurants in the city. In this neighbourhood, we enjoy their onion bhajees as a starter, and their butter chicken – so good! We don’t need to say more, you really have to try it yourself! (Tues. – Sun., for carryout or delivery via Doordash and Uber Eats, or by calling 514-750-0409)

Gandhi, 230 Saint-Paul Street West

For a culinary voyage to the heart of Southeast Asia, Gandhi offers you an explosion of Indian flavours, fit for the tables of royalty. Don’t hesitate to try their tandoori and cari specialties, and let yourself be tempted by the chef’s recommendations. To start enjoying, just place your order, and come by the store to pick up your meal. Or you can also you’re your dish delivered through your preferred method.

And Some Tea Please!

Ming Tao Xuan Tea Salon, 451 Saint Sulpice Street

And wouldn’t tea go well with all this food? The autumn season makes us want to bundle up and tea is the perfect accompaniment! The salon on Saint Sulpice Street, Ming Tao Xuan, has a wide selection of tea and brewed drinks, for a multitude of flavours and more moments for yourself. We’ve ordered from their online store and have had tastes of Asia delivered straight to our door! Think about trying “Butterfly Shadow”, which has us daydreaming already, before we’ve even tasted it!
