This spring, Centaur Theatre presents A Play for the Living in a Time of Extinction, a play that unfolds without actors, without actresses, without stage dressing. There’s nothing but the play taking place and reinterpreting itself according to where it’s being performed and the people putting it on.
A Play for the Living in a Time of Extinction is novel to the genre, because the concept itself – a young playwright on stage, describing life on Earth in the era of great extinctions – is revolutionary in its participation and ecological engagement aspect, as detailed by the New York Times during the play’s run in Europe (article in English only).
At once funny, touching, and alarmist, when the main character “discusses the imminent climate disaster with honesty, humour, and heart”, we fell in love with this play heavy with justice and relevancy, and already shown in a dozen countries.
